Interactive Whiteboard
There are two types of Interactive White Boards, Promethean ActivBoards and Smartboard. Both of these are very similar to PowerPoint but have many more options and possibilities. Both types provide a bank of teacher resources full of pre-made presentations, lesson plan ideas, and games. Promethean ActivBoards use Promethean Planet and Smartboards use Smart Exchange. These are great places for teachers to also access IWB resources. These IWB products also have an authoring software that teachers can use to create IWB materials. These are ActivInspire for Promethean and Notebook for Smartboard. In my opinion, IWBs are one of the most useful types of technology to be utilized in the classroom. I have seen firsthand in many elementary classrooms how fun and engaging IWBs can be for the students.
Some of the trends related to IWB use in schools is that most classrooms contain an Interactive White Board. One issue related to IWBs is that they can easily promote primarily teacher-led discussion and instruction . The alternate to this is that if it is used wisely, this tool can also be a great way for the students to interact and stay engaged by participating in things such as games and study material created using the IWB.

ActivInspire is a great tool that allows you to create fun flip charts on the subject matter of your choice. Within your flip chart, you can develop games and slides that get your students excited about the subject that they are being taught. Below I have attached and flip chart I created exemplifying important American Symbols. This social studies subject matter is appropriate for kindergartners, and addresses the standard SSKH2.
