Video
Videos are known as a type of multimedia. They're used by educators to help students learn and stay engaged through the use of technology. Teachers can create high quality videos and use them for students learning through software such as Moviemaker. There are five different formats that you will encounter when uploading videos. These formats include, MP4, MOV, WMV, AVI, and FLV, but the two most compatible and easy to use are are MP4 and WMV. Videos are definitely helping when it comes to getting and keeping students engaged. Not only can you use them to teach or introduce a topic, but you can also allow students to create their own videos, bumping up the LoTi level of your lesson.
A few drawbacks to creating and using videos in the classroom is that educators must be careful of the privacy of their own students and copyright issues. Teachers must ensure that students are being safe on the internet and are using monitored sites to protect privacy. Teachers must also correctly site any work and credit to outside sources, if their worl is not completely original. Teachers can ensure student's privacy by not publishing any locations or names. Students, like teachers, can create their own videos using software. In class we learned how to make videos using Moviemaker. This software is great because it is easy to use and has a ton of features. Students can simply collect pictures, build a timeline of those pictures, and set them to music, creating an awesome mini movie! Below you will see a video I made on Susan B. Anthony using Moviemaker. I have attached both .wmv and .mp4 files for different viewing formats.
